Challenges in Schools Meeting

The project was launched in spring 2008 with a preparation meeting in Prague from 10 – 12 March, which was attended by one teacher from Lyceum that was selected to take part in the Project. At this meeting we formed the partnerships and agreed the topics that each partnership of schools would address.

We have the honour to be a partner of schools from Poland – Agnieszka Wereszczak(CXXB Liceum,Warsaw), Finland – Markus Masalin(Vantaa Sotunki Upper Secondary School) and the UK – David Knights(Wilmington Boys). Our cluster project title is “Schools for the 21st Century” - making a “school for the future” today.

Challenges in Schools

Our Lyceum has been selected for the British Council international project Challenges in Schools.

Secondary schools from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and the UK are actively involved in the project.

The project aims to develop a vision of ‘the school of the future' with the active engagement of young people and their teachers in order to

  • use ICT tools extensively,
  • develop the skills of negotiation, co-operation, tolerance, and intercultural awareness that are needed in the new Europe,
  • develop a participative, constructive and safe learning environment.

We have already received Christmas cards from our friends from the USA and Thailand! Our students sent e-mail letters to their new pen pals from Thailand.

AFRICA

Students of 9 FL, 10 FL and 11 FL took up the call to send some Christmas cards and school kits to the children from an orphanage for victims of war and AIDS in Uganda.
We hope our presents, which have been sent today, will put a smile on the faces of such vulnerable children.

World Aids Day (Christmas Cards Project)

Hello Everyone

Last year I received a letter from Albert Kunihira who works at an orphanage
for victims of war and AIDS in Uganda. I have included Albert's letter below.

I sent the letter to everyone who joined the project and asked if they would send some cards to the children in Africa, who had never received a card before.
Many schools generously sent cards without ever expecting anything in return.

Albert took photos of the children reading the cards. They had a wonderful party and distributed school kits and cards to the children. The link to their website with photos of last year's celebration is http://www.aymu.org/Sponsorship/index.html

If you would like to make a difference in the life of a child in Africa please send some cards to

Albert KunihiraCountry Director/AIDS & PEACE Activist Africa Youth Ministries UgandaP.O. BOX 20029,KAMPALA-UGANDA
There are details on the website if you would like to sponsor a school kit for an orphan.

Judy
